Do I think there is room in government for religious faith? Hell yes. Not only do I think there is room for it, I think it should be required for a person to be faithful in order to be elected to government. That does not mean I think they should be Christian. Or Jew, or Muslim, or Buddhist. But they should have a moral compass. They should believe that we are not the final judge of our actions.

I don't think the government needs to be in our bedrooms. I think they need to get the fuck out of our schools, and we will take care of the crap going on in bedrooms. Do you deny that the easy access to contraceptives has led to the huge rise in unwed pregnancies? You probably don't, because you are a liberal turd. But the absolute truth is that the meddling of the government in our schools, mainly the courts ruling God out and liberals like your sorry ass in, are the root cause of 90% of our nations troubles.

Do I believe in theocracy? No. I don't. But I believe in Freedom of Religion. I believe every human being, given the opportunity to think for themselves, will create a God to worship. So, I believe that religion, or more importantly, faith, should be promoted by government, not restricted by it.

On February 15, a legendary Marine left us to report for duty in Heaven. This particular Marine Legend was a legend for two very impressive actions.

The first heroic action William H. Dabney undertook was the courtship and marriage of Virginia Puller, eldest daughter of Chesty Puller. Having chased the daughters of such famous Marines as Col. Wes Fox and Master Gunnery Sergeant Thompson, I know how intimidating it can be to knock on that door. Of course, Bill Dabney was 6'5" and weighed 235 pounds, while Chesty was only about 5'10, and about 165. But I doubt the toughest of the tough would dare say they didn't find Chesty intimidating.
Later, as a Captain, Dabney was placed in command of a re-inforced company on top of Hill 881s, over-looking the base at Khe Sanh. From January 21 until April 14, Dabney and his Marines held their position against overwhelming forces. The Marines said there were only two ways off Hill 881s: Flown off or Blown off. They endured enemy mortar and artillery fire, and could only be re-supplied by helicopter. The Marines knew they had a twenty second window from the pop of the enemy mortars to the impact of the shells, but Capt Dabney never had to order anyone to carry stretchers to the helicopters. The Marines prided themselves in raising the flag every morning, rushing the job in order to get it done before the mortar rounds landed. Again, Dabney never had to call for volunteers. Morale under his leadership, even under these terrible conditions, was high.

Captain Dabney's Navy Cross recommendation went down in a helicopter crash, and he was not awarded the medal until 37 years after the Siege of Khe Sanh.

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to William H. Dabney (0-80399), Colonel [then Captain], U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving as Commanding Officer of two heavily reinforced rifle companies of the Third Battalion, Twenty-Sixth Marines, THIRD Marine Division (Reinforced), Fleet Marine Force, in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 21 January to 14 April 1968. During the entire period, Colonel Dabney's force stubbornly defended Hill 881S, a regional outpost vital to the defense of the Khe Sanh Combat Base. Following his bold spoiling attack on 20 January 1968, shattering a much larger North Vietnamese Army (NVA) force deploying to attack Hill 881S, Colonel Dabney's force was surrounded and cut off from all outside ground supply for the entire 77 day Siege of Khe Sanh. Enemy snipers, machine guns, artillery, and 120-millimeter mortars responded to any daylight movement on his position. In spite of deep entrenchments, his total casualties during the siege were close to 100 percent. Helicopters were his only source of re-supply, and each such mission brought down a cauldron of fire on his landing zones. On numerous occasions Colonel Dabney raced into the landing zone under heavy hostile fire to direct debarkation of personnel and to carry wounded Marines to evacuation helicopters. The extreme difficulty of re-supply resulted in conditions of hardship and deprivation seldom experienced by American forces. Nevertheless, Colonel Dabney's indomitable spirit was truly an inspiration to his troops. He organized his defenses with masterful skill and his preplanned fires shattered every enemy probe on his positions. He also devised an early warning system whereby NVA artillery and rocket firings from the west were immediately reported by lookouts to the Khe Sanh Combat Base, giving exposed personnel a few life saving seconds to take cover, saving countless lives, and facilitating the targeting of enemy firing positions. Colonel Dabney repeatedly set an incredible example of calm courage under fire, gallantly exposing himself at the center of every action without concern for his own safety. Colonel Dabney contributed decisively to ultimate victory in the Battle of Khe Sanh, and ranks among the most heroic stands of any American force in history. By his valiant combat leadership, exceptional bravery, and selfless devotion to duty, Colonel Dabney reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1990, Colonel Dabney became the Commandant of Cadets at VMI, his Alma Mater.

Again? Marine murdered by cops

At 4:30 am, local time, an Orange County Sheriff's Deputy shot and killed an active duty Marine. An un-armed, active duty Marine. In front of his two oldest daughters. And people want to argue that cops are "merely doing a tough job"?

Sgt. Manuel Loggins routinely went to the track at San Clemente High School with his family, to walk and pray. His peers and supervisors all testify that he was a soft spoken, respectful man, who worked hard to help others.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department originally claimed the deputy feared for his life. Later that was changed to the deputy feared for the lives of Loggins' children. Apparently, words were exchanged between Loggins and the deputy, but the deputy either couldn't understand Loggins, or he is having a hard time inventing the conversation that supposedly took place.

The deputy is on paid leave pending an investigation by the DA's office. Sgt Manuel Loggins, however, is still dead.

This deputy, who so far in my research remains nameless, took no action prior to the use of deadly force. If he was truly concerned that Loggins might harm his own children if he drove away, why didn't the deputy shoot out his tires? Or maybe he was aiming for a tire, and hit Loggins instead? This whole story stinks, and it helps clear up some confusion on the Sgt. Jason Prostrollo shooting earlier in Scottsdale, AZ. Basically, the cops feel they are above the law.

I'm just guessing, but probably the reason he ran over the gate is because it was normally open when he habitually went there to walk with his family.

The cop, who was "doing paperwork", was probably really sleeping on the job. He woke up at the sound of an accident at his "safe hide", and sleepy and confused, shot this Marine. His confusion still apparent, he made up a story about "feeling Threatened". Later, when told his story wouldn't wash, he made up a new one, when someone told him, "For Christs sake, his kids were in the back seat!"

A commentor on one of the stories I read while researching this, seems to think that conservatives are behind this trend. Nothing could be further from the truth. Overstepping police forces are historically a tool of the left. Get the people afraid of the cops, then you gain control of the people.

We have to stop this. I'm sick of the people sworn to protect us being the ones we need protecting from.

And this idea of voting for who you think can win, as opposed to who you think best represents your own values, says something about your values. I am getting really disgusted by the American people. Have they no integrity? Or honor?

Willard "Mitt" Romney is no conservative. He is a moderate liberal, who has set the precedent for the most liberal law in our nation, yet "conservatives" are actually voting for him. I think it is time for these so called conservatives to re-examine their values, and decide whether or not they really are "conservatives." I, for one, think many of them are not.

Then we heard, clear as if she was standing beside us, "Oh say can you see...". For the next two and a half minutes, the radio was clear, and we heard what I still consider to be the finest rendition of The Star Spangled Banner ever produced.

Police in Scottsdale, AZ, recently surrounded a drunk Marine. They issued orders for him to drop his weapons, (half of a pool cue in each hand), sicked their dog on him, and then shot and killed him. When asked if the use of deadly force was absolutely necessary, the cops replied it was too windy to use their tasers. According to the National Weather Service, the winds in Scottsdale that night were 6-8 knots.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- According toScottsdale police, a Scottsdale police lieutenant shot and killed an intoxicated man who had threatened a couple and a cab driver with a knife and then came toward officers with a pool cue in each hand.

I think Lt. Dipshit is a coward. No cops were injured. A man with a pool cue didn't hit a single human being with them, and the cowardly cops shot him? Pathetic.

The cop shot his partner, and he killed a man for no apparent reason. I think that should result in life in prison, or worse. The cops in this country have really got things screwed up. Have you ever noticed that they catch child molesters alive, then release them on their own recognizance, but they shoot drunk Marines?

Not all cops are cowardly, lunch money victims. But the ones who aren't are not policing the ones who are.

Democrats think we need a safety net. But they think we should all just languish around in the net, sipping Mai Tai's and spreading on sun tan oil. We have had countless examples of their sloth, such as increasing the minimum wage or extending unemployment benefits.

I personally don't think we need a community safety net. I don't think the government should provide for me when I cannot, or more importantly will not, provide for myself. I should provide for my own rainy days, and so should every American. And for those of you out there who think, "But what about when it rains?" my response is "GET WET."

Minimum wage was a stupid idea, pushed by liberals, "to help the poor." John Kerry still believes you can make people less poor by raising the minimum wage. That is just stupid. The guy getting paid the least (minimum) WILL ALWAYS BE POOR. That is so simple that a first grader can understand it. But apparently they teach stupid at places like Harvard.

This man understands what makes America the greatest country on earth. Hard work; work that cannot be done while lounging in a hammock. He also understands that Martin Luther King's dream has been realized, and he, and I, refuse to let Obama and his evil idiots ruin it.

On January 19th, 1807, Robert E. Lee entered the world, the son of General "Lighthorse Harry" Lee, one of George Washington's greatest assets. He was raised as a Southern gentleman, and entered West Point in 1825.

Because of the history lessons of our liberal school teachers, most Americans misunderstand Robert E. Lee. Most Americans don't realize how great a man he was. Another thing most Americans don't realize is that Lee did not want to make war on the United States. Had his own home state of Virginia not seceded, Lee would have been the only General that Abraham Lincoln needed to finish off the Civil War. But because Lee could not fire on his fellow Virginians, Lincoln would go through seven Generals before finding a man who could whip Lee in his weakened state.

Some of Lee's tactics are still used today. He was a brilliant tactician, but for his hesitance to attack the North. Had he followed up his early victories with an immediate invasion of the North, we might not have to tolerate such atrocities as federally mandated speed limits or seat belt laws. But Lee only wanted the Northern Aggressors to leave his poor Virginia alone.

This is the real problem in America. The government has been behaving like this guy, but just a short while ago, so were the citizens. How many of you know people who kept borrowing against their house? Borrow the equity, buy a boat. Boat immediately depreciates. Borrow the equity, buy a car. Car immediately depreciates. Borrow the equity, go on vacation. Money pissed away. And all of the Harvard egghead economists can't figure out what's wrong? More money pissed away.

The American Dream is that you grow up free, you work hard, you pay for your house, you retire for a few leisure years, then you die. The kids bury you, and in a few years, join you in the cemetery. Not anymore. Apparently our politicians have bastardized the Dream. Now it is rush, rush, rush. Gotta have it all, and gotta have it all NOW. Chill out, America. Some things you have to work for. You have to set a goal, then work out a plan to achieve that goal, then you have to work on achieving that goal. It ain't rocket science.

Tomorrow is the observed anniversary of the birth of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. He would have been 82 years old today, if he hadn't been murdered by James Earl Ray. It is my honest opinion that Ray did America a great disservice. Had he lived, it is entirely possible that the Reverend King would have fulfilled his dream.

Unfortunately, after his death, his dream was picked up, and distorted by, a couple of charlatans, namely Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. I believe these two men have done more to set back race relations than anyone since James Earl Ray.

The Reverend King gave a moving speech at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. In that speech, he said he had a dream that one day in this nation, a man would be judged by the content of his character, not the color of his skin. We came close, Reverend. Unfortunately, we fell short, and have receded since. The election of Barak Obama in 2008 was a horrible nightmare for this country, not a glorious dream. In a complete reversal of the hopes and dreams of Reverend King, Obama was elected because he is black. Disappointing, America.

King warned us not to take things too far, but we ignored him. We have melted in America, like we pride ourselves on, for being a melting pot. But some nefarious people have attempted, and are still attempting, to remove some of the ingredients to the American stew. People like Jackson and Sharpton have tried to remove blacks from the melting pot, making them a separate dish on our great table. They have worked hard to ensure that blacks feel left out, though in all areas, blacks are represented in greater numbers than in the general population. In the military, in college and professional sports, in Congress. But yet they are still oppressed?

The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

Sharpton and Jackson have stirred the pot of distrust, antagonizing race relations, for selfish personal gain. Sharpton and Jackson are rich men. Reverend Sharpton has a net worth of 5 million dollars. Not bad for a man of the cloth, huh?

Al Sharpton is an American Baptist minister, civil rights activist, and radio talk show host; he has a net worth of $5 million.

The Reverend Jackson has a net worth of 10 million dollars. Now how can a guy with that kind of scratch claim to be oppressed?

Jesse Jackson is an American civil rights activist and Baptist minister with a net worth of $10 million. Jesse Jackson acquired that net worth as a prominent civil rights activist, United States shadow Senator, and the creator of the civil rights organization Rainbow/PUSH.

Reverend King, in his I Have A Dream speech, issued orders to men like Jackson and Sharpton, but they have conveniently ignored them to enrich themselves on their people's struggle.

And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.

Sharpton took a huge step backwards in his support of Tawana Brawley. He made very strident efforts to crucify some innocent boys from Duke University, simply because they were white. Sharpton is scum of the highest order.

King's speech was moving. As a man who wasn't even born until he was dead, I can say that I don't remember a time in my life when I saw true racism. Until the Federal Government made the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior's birthday a Federal holiday. On Friday, January 10, 1986, they announced over the intercom at North Stafford High School that Monday, the 13th, would be no school for black kids in observance of Martin Luther King Day. White kids were to report as usual.

I won't try to say racism was dead before that. It wasn't. But also that year, a man named Clarence Thomas was nominated for the Supreme Court. A black man flew on the space shuttle. Erik Dickerson led the NFL in rushing attempts and rushing yardage. Jerry Rice led in touchdown receptions and receiving yardage. America was pursuing King's dream.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I hope that we can get Reverend King's dream back on track. I hope in the coming year, we will judge all men, and women, on the content of their character. Of course that will leave Jackson, Sharpton, and Obama in the ditch where they belong.

This guy was 5'2" tall and weighed about 120 pounds. In high school, he suffered an injury in a basketball game that in our world could have been fixed, but in the 1930's, they just told him to deal with it. While taking a jump shot, a defender knocked his legs out from under him. He broke his fall with his head. His vision and hearing began going out after that, getting worse until his death.

As his sight and hearing deteriorated, he decided to drop out of school because he couldn't see or hear the lessons. In 1938, he joined the National Guard, thinking he couldn't pass the physical for the regular Army. In October of 1940, Young's unit was federalized in preparation for the upcoming war. As a corporal, he served as a small arms instructor. After his promotion to sergeant, he was a squad leader. His unit was sent to the Solomon Islands to train for the attack on New Georgia. Just prior to the attack, Young, afraid his hearing and eyesight would interfere with his ability to lead his men in combat, requested that his rank be reduced to private. At first thinking he was a coward, his officers sent him to sick call, where the doctors discovered he was almost completely deaf. The "coward" then begged to be allowed to stay with the unit for the invasion.

On July 31st, 1943, Young earned the Medal of Honor by drawing the enemy fire to himself so his platoon could withdraw.

Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Army, 148th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division. Place and date: On New Georgia, Solomon Islands, 31 July 1943. Entered service at: Clyde, Ohio. Birth: Tiffin, Ohio. G.O. No.: 3, 6 January 1944. Citation: On 31 July 1943, the infantry company of which Pvt. Young was a member, was ordered to make a limited withdrawal from the battle line in order to adjust the battalion's position for the night. At this time, Pvt. Young's platoon was engaged with the enemy in a dense jungle where observation was very limited. The platoon suddenly was pinned down by intense fire from a Japanese machinegun concealed on higher ground only 75 yards away. The initial burst wounded Pvt. Young. As the platoon started to obey the order to withdraw, Pvt. Young called out that he could see the enemy emplacement, whereupon he started creeping toward it. Another burst from the machinegun wounded him the second time. Despite the wounds, he continued his heroic advance, attracting enemy fire and answering with rifle fire. When he was close enough to his objective, he began throwing handgrenades, and while doing so was hit again and killed. Pvt. Young's bold action in closing with this Japanese pillbox and thus diverting its fire, permitted his platoon to disengage itself, without loss, and was responsible for several enemy casualties.

In 1945, a song was written about Private Young's exploits. Robert A. Heinlein used Young as an inspiration in his book Starship Troopers.

Oklahoma Is Right

Sarah McKinley, a young Oklahoma widow, shot and killed a man who kicked down her door. Oklahoma says she did the right thing.

Oklahoma recently passed a law saying judges in Oklahoma couldn't use foreign laws, mainly Sharia laws, to rule on cases in Oklahoma. A libnut judge suspended the law, and recently a libnut appeals court overruled it. But I am proud of Oklahoma for passing the law, and I hope they keep after it.

And finally, the Oklahoma State Cowboys played some awesome football this year, beating OU for only the 17th time in 106 years, and ending their season ranked number 2 in the nation.

When I was about fifteen, I found a book at a yard sale that looked interesting. It was called Into the Mouth of the Cat. It was about the first graduate of the Air Force Academy to win the Medal of Honor. If you can find it, it is definitely worth reading.

Lance Sijan was born in Milwaukee in 1942. After graduating high school, he spent a year at the Naval Academy Prep School, before gaining an appointment to the Air Force Academy. After graduation, he trained as a fighter pilot, then was sent to Vietnam.

On a bomb run on November 9, 1968 as the REO in an F-4 Phantom, he was forced to eject when the fuses on their bomb load went off on release, destroying the aircraft. Sijan had severe injuries, including a fractured skull and a compound fracture of his left leg. His right hand was mangled. A serious rescue attempt was made, and after losing one aircraft and several others having to leave the area due to damage, a ground crew was sent down to get Sijan. After 33 minutes of fighting off the NVA and searching for Sijan, they were forced to leave. Sijan said he would crawl into the jungle and attempt a penetrator rescue later. The next day, unable to raise him on the radio, Sijan was added to the MIA rolls.

Sijan spent the next 46 days evading capture. He was forced to push himself along on his back with his good leg. He survived by eating bugs and leaches, and drinking rainwater and dew off of vegetation. He was captured when he crawled into an NVA camp. Emaciated, starved and severely injured, he overpowered a guard and escaped after a few hours of captivity. He was recaptured after ten hours, and tortured and beaten, never giving any information but name, rank, and serial number. He was transferred to the Hanoi Hilton when he contracted pneumonia. Delirious and at death's door, he mentioned future escape attempts to his cell mate every time he regained consciousness. He died on January 22, 1968.

His story was told by Air Force Colonel Robert R. Craner and Air Force Captain Guy Gruters, POW's who tended to Sijan while he was imprisoned. In 1976, Sijan was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

Sijan's extraordinary heroism and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty at the cost of his life are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Air Force and reflect great credit upon himself and the U.S. Armed Forces.

The United States Air Force Academy has honored Sijan with an annual award given to the student who best emulates Sijan's dedication to duty. A residence hall is named for him at the academy.

I worked for a company in Greensboro, NC when I first got out of the Marine Corps. I was hired as a security guard. The company also ran janitorial services. The business I worked at was an insurance company, staffed by mostly young women, this being in the early nineties when men still enjoyed manly work. One of the young ladies came to me one evening and told me that one of the other security guards was creeping out the girls, making verbal advances as he walked them to their cars. She said that some of the girls were starting to get scared he might take advantage of the fact that he was alone with them in a dark parking lot.

I went to the boss and told him I wanted to fire the guy, but he told me not to. He said that firing him would cause his unemployment insurance to go up. Bullshit. You are charged with providing a secure and comfortable workplace, and the people you are securing are scared of you? I fired the guy anyway.

Mittens said he liked being able to fire people that provided services to him, that if they weren't getting the job done, he wanted to be rid of them to allow someone else to give it a shot. I absolutely agree, and I hate Willard.

It is a tradition on New Years Day to eat black eyed peas. Eating them is supposed to bring you good luck in the coming year. I eat them every year, not wanting to jinx myself. Last year, I made a big pot of black eyed peas with ham, and served them with corn bread. Whether they bring good luck or not, they are deliscious and sooo good for you.

In their never ending quest to save us from ourselves, the federal gummint has passed a "no texting while driving" law that they will begin to enforce. I'm a huge fan of stupid laws, so I'll just love this one.

If, after an accident, the state wants to use "texting" as a litigating factor, I'm all for that. But if the only crime you are charged with is texting, this is a bogus rule. The old saying "no harm, no foul" comes to mind. I feel the exact same way about drunk driving. If you can keep it between the ditches and make it home without damaging other peoples persons or property, congratulations.

I'm not saying its a good idea, but I think the legal limit of .08 for everyone is ridiculous. Some people are hammered at .02, while others are perfectly in control at .18. Impairment is relative. While texting and not driving, my wife can text a zillion words a minute. I, on the other hand, can barely get out one word a minute. So some people are less distracted than others. The only way to prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that texting while driving impairs your ability to control a vehicle is if you lose control of the vehicle.

That's how I feel about the law getting involved. Having said that, I'd like to point out that sitting at a green light, texting, while I am behind you, is rude. Rudeness permeates our society, and it sure would be nice if people would begin to think of someone besides themselves for a change.

State Says American Flag Violates Law

A Maryland community is up in arms after state highway workers removed an American flag honoring military personnel from a traffic circle and threw it into a dump truck.

“We want our flag back,” Rhonda Winkler told Fox News & Commentary. “We are patriots and we love America.”

Winkler and her family erected the flag in a traffic circle three years ago in the town of Woodbine. They posted the flag to honor their nephew, a soldier deployed to Afghanistan.

About a month ago a car crashed into the roundabout damaging a tree and destroying the original flag. So Winkler’s husband and an 88-year-old World War Two veteran replaced the flag. And that’s when the trouble started.

Winkler said she received a telephone call alerting her that state highway workers had taken down the flag and the flag pole, tossing both into the back of a dump truck.

“They told us it was against the law to erect a flag on the traffic circle,” Winkler said. “They told my husband that whoever put up the flag could be arrested for trespassing.”

State highway workers also told her that people had complained about Old Glory.

“We figured it’s the American flag and we live in the United States of America – how can anyone have a problem with it,” Winkler asked.

David Buck, a spokesman for the state high department, told the Baltimore Sun that there is also a safety issue.

“They don’t have traffic control out there, and they don’t have (road work) vests on,” he told the newspaper.

The flags removal sparked outrage across the community. Dozens of people turned out for a rally – many people waving flags. It was especially moving for local residents who have loved ones serving in the military.

“It brought tears to my eyes,” Daniela Schnetzler told the Baltimore Sun. Her son just returned from Iraq. “We need that support. Freedom isn’t free, I’ll tell you that.”

And Winkler said that’s why the flag has been flying all these years – to support not just her nephew but every member of the military.

“If it was something derogatory or inappropriate, that’s one thing,” resident Gene Mellin told the newspaper. “But to take the flag down, it’s not right. I know they have rules, but it’s just a flag. It’s the flag.”

Winkler said she hopes her three young children will learn a lesson from the incident.

“When you believe in something, you have to take a stand,” she said. “That doesn’t mean going out and rioting and sleeping on streets and not going to work. It means you work hard, you work for yourselves, and you work for your country so that we are a better people.”

As for now – there’s no indication if the state of Maryland will reverse their decision – or if the Winkler family will get back their flag.

She said state workers have refused to return the Stars and Stripes.

Winkler said she is typically not one to raise a big stink about stuff – but not this time.

“We as Americans have to take a stand,” she said. “No matter what, we support the flag.”

So why raise a big stink?

“Because it’s the American flag,” she said.

MajGen Larry Livingston

Another Marine I met at the Armed Forces Staff College in 1980 was Larry Livingston. He had a couple boys a few years younger than me, and, because they were Marine kids, they also chewed nails while other kids sucked on cotton candy. One of the best things about the AFSC was the Marine MPs, who were always a little more willing to believe the Marine kids over the whining, crybaby, Army, Navy, and Air Force kids. As a result, I got away with a lot I probably shouldn't have.

General Livingston joined the Marine Corps in 1960, after trying college and not finding it very challenging. After an eight year enlisted career, in which he made it all the way to staff sergeant, he was commissioned on the Meritorious NCO program, after some outstanding performance during the Tet Offensive of 1968.

After a tour at Camp Pendleton, he returned to Vietnam, where he was an advisor to the Vietnamese Marine Corps during and after the Easter Offensive. He was awarded the Navy Cross after handing a particularly good ass whipping to the North Vietnamese north of Quang Tri as South Vietnam counterattacked in response to the Easter Offensive, an assault that should have spelled defeat for the north, but politicians back home failed to back up our allies.

Livingston had already been awarded the Silver Star for an action that may have been the inspiration for Tommy Lee Jones in "Rules of Engagement".

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Lawrence Herbert Livingston (MCSN: 0-107447), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving in the Republic of Vietnam on 12 April 1972 as the Assistant United States Marine Advisor to the First Infantry Battalion, Vietnamese Marine Corps. Captain Livingston and the company of Marines with which he was participating in a search operation, having just taken a prisoner for interrogation, were ambushed by a Vietnamese platoon. Captain Livingston's courageous and decisive action immediately following the death of the Vietnamese commander not only resulted in the withdrawal of the enemy platoon, saving an untold number of friendly casualties, but enabled the Vietnamese Marines, with the aid of supporting artillery fire, to inflict serious damage to a larger enemy unit nearby. Captain Livingston's devotion to duty, courage under fire and exemplary professionalism were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Captain Lawrence Herbert Livingston (MCSN: 0-107447), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism on 11 July 1972 while serving as Senior Advisor to the 1st Vietnamese Marine Corps Infantry Battalion during a heliborne assault into enemy-held territory northeast of Quang Tri City, Republic of Vietnam. When the battalion encountered unexpectedly heavy enemy fire while disembarking into the landing zone, and sustained numerous casualties, Captain Livingston moved throughout the hasty positions taken by the scattered and hesitant element and formed the Marines into an assault force. Despite the continuing heavy concentration of hostile fire, he began the assault on the initial objective - a treeline approximately 50 yards distant. Although blown from his feet by explosions and periodically delayed to reform and redirect his casualty-riddled force, he forged ahead, leading the Vietnamese Marines into the enemy-infested trench lines of the objective and a subsequent hand-to-hand battle. Upon seizure of the initial portion of the trench line, Captain Livingston shed his combat equipment, emerged from the trench line, and exposed himself to a hail of enemy fire to reach and carry his wounded naval gunfire spotter to a position of relative safety. Captain Livingston's repeated acts of heroism in the face of heavy enemy fire reflected great credit upon himself and the Marine Corps and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

General Livingston was a colonel in 1990 when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, in command of the Sixth Marine Regiment, affectionately called "Pogey-Bait Sixth" by Marines in other regiments. For you non-Marines, pogey-bait is what we call candy bars and other junk. As the deadline for Hussein to pull out approached, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines was attached to the Sixth Marine Regiment for operations in Kuwait. A lot of my fellow Marines were upset by this, due to the whole pogey-bait issue, but I informed them that there wasn't a better Marine in the war than Colonel Livingston. And of course, four days after we started the ground war, General Norman Schwarzkopf said, on CNN worldwide, "God Bless the Marines." After his behavior and treatment of Marines during Grenada, this was a sweet victory for the Marine Corps.

General Livingston was awarded the Legion of Merit with Combat "V" for Desert Storm. In addition to the other awards mentioned for his Vietnam service, he was awarded four Bronze Stars, and five Purple Hearts. As with a lot of these Marines I have posted on, his son also served as a Marine.

Larry Livingston is one bad ass Marine.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A babysitter and trusted neighbor has confessed that he bludgeoned a 9-year-old Indiana girl to death with a brick then dismembered her, hiding her head, hands and feet at his home and dumping the rest of her remains nearby, police said Tuesday.
Allen County sheriff's investigators said in an affidavit that 39-year-old Michael Plumadore admits he killed Aliahna Lemmon on Thursday.
According to the affidavit, Plumadore told police that after beating Aliahna to death, he stuffed her body into trash bags and hid her in the freezer at his home in a rundown trailer park in Fort Wayne. He said he later chopped up her body and stuffed her remains into freezer bags.

Here is a guy for all Marines to admire. Not only did he hold every rank from Private to Colonel, except for Sergeant Major, he won the Medal of Honor in Vietnam. And, just as icing on the cake, he had three of the best looking daughters in Marine Corps history. Col. Wes Fox is one of the fathers who is laughing his ass off at the thought of me having four daughters. I am certain he was wishing I would have quit hanging around his second daughter back in the early eighties.

Col. Fox served two tours in Korea, and two tours in Vietnam. He received four Purple Hearts over his career. After retiring in 1993, because he'd reached the mandatory retirement age of 62, he was the Deputy Commandant of Cadets at Virginia Tech for eight years, for an astonishing 51 years in Marine Corps uniforms.

Fox's autobiography, Marine Rifleman: Forty Three Years in the Corps, is definitely worth reading.

In a FoxNEWS survey, 19% of people said they would spend the $40 on gas to go to work. That wouldn't be too impressive, except for the percentage of people who said they won't be getting the money due to being unemployed.

So here's our idiots in DC, arguing over the length of a tax break that will actually send money out of our economy, straight into the coffers of OPEC. The main obstacle between the two parties? An oil pipeline that would create jobs and reduce our dependence on Middle East oil. Obama and Reid want nothing to do with it, because they are traitors.

Americans need to go to work on January 2, and change their W-2's to "exempt", so that there will be zero with holdings from their pay. Just do it for a month or two. When DC sees that there's no cash coming in, they'll be forced to listen to the people.

We Still Make Heroes

This particular hero is a contemporary of mine. He and I both served in the First Gulf War. He stayed in the Corps, and in 2004, in Fallujah, Iraq, earned the Navy Cross. Although severely wounded, he recovered and is still on active duty.

By the time he was carried out of the house by Lance Cpl. Chris Marquez and Lance Cpl. Dan Shaffer as Lucian M. Reed, an Associated Press photographer snapped the iconic photo displayed at Marine Corps installations all over the globe, Kasal had lost approximately 60 percent of his blood from more than 40 shrapnel wounds and seven 7.62 mm AK-47 gunshots.

“It’s been a very emotional week,” Kasal said. “I am blessed to recover from my injuries, which the doctors thought would never happen, and regain my place in the Marine Corps. I would take the pain of surgeries any day over the pain of being away from my Marines.”

What compels you to continue serving?
Marines. Gotta love Marines. Where else can you get paid to be around such great Americans?

Was there anything you had to tell yourself to help you walk into the “House of Hell”?
Yes, there were three Marines down and wounded and they needed help. Pretty simple.

As he lay on the floor in what has become"The House of Death", severely wounded and bleeding out because he had used all of his bandages on his fellow Marine, Kasal was hit again. He said:

“That’s when I got shot in the butt,” Kasal recalled. “It was the shootout at the OK Corral – point-blank range. I was lying there shooting and somebody shot me through both cheeks. It smarted a bit.”

Smarted a bit. To me, that sounds like a tough man.

Although severely wounded himself, he shouted encouragement to his fellow Marines as they continued to clear the structure. By his bold leadership, wise judgment, and complete dedication to duty, First Sergeant Kasal reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

Jesus

Back around 2000 years ago, a fella named Jesus walked the earth. Today, many millions of people believe he was the son of God. Maybe he was. But let's assume for a minute that he was just a man. Let's assume that he just wanted everyone to get along.

Jesus existed. We have irrefutable proof of that. Jesus was crucified. Again, rock solid. Jesus was a Rabbi, a teacher. He led a group of men around his country, teaching people to love one another. And he must have been good at it, because two thousand years later, he still has people signing up for his class.

There are some historians who believe Jesus was the leader of the Iscariots, a group of Jews who wanted the Romans evicted from their country. These historians think Jesus was supposed to enter Jerusalem and demand that the Romans leave, which would have got him killed, but also would have started an uprising that may have forced the Romans to abandon Judea. Jesus didn't do that. Instead, he said, "Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's. Give unto God that which is God's." A brilliant move, but perhaps the reason Judas Iscariot betrayed him.

Jesus' message of peace and love has withstood two millennia. No one else has a track record that good. I believe he is the Son of God, but if you don't agree with me, you should at least be willing to admit that he is perhaps the most influential person in world history.

Murphy

You can't talk about heroes in America without mentioning Audie Murphy. Audie Murphy won every award for valor that this country bestows upon her heroes. He was a phenomenal fighting man, even though his career was over before he was old enough to vote (hat tip to Rick Perry).

"The true meaning of America, you ask? It's in a Texas rodeo, in a policeman's badge, in the sound of laughing children, in a political rally, in a newspaper... In all these things, and many more, you'll find America. In all these things, you'll find freedom. And freedom is what America means to the world. And to me."

Audie Murphy grew up in poverty in Kingston, Texas. He was seventeen years old when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor, and like a true hero, he ran to the Marine recruiter. In a blunder that will never be forgiven, the Marine recruiter turned him away. Audie Murphy was so boyish looking, that he appeared to be only twelve years old. Murphy didn't quit, though, he tried the Army, and they sent him away. After he turned 18, with a letter from his older sister saying he was indeed 18, he finally enlisted in the Army.

In a period of 27 months, Murphy was promoted from private to second lieutenant, was awarded every medal for valor, and even doubled up on the Silver Star and Bronze Star. After the war, he went to Hollywood, where he made a lot of Westerns, and a couple of war movies you may have heard of: To Hell and Back, and The Red Badge of Courage. To Hell and Back was based on Murphy's autobiography.

Murphy was killed in a plane crash near Roanoke, Virginia in May of 1971. He has been receiving honors on a regular basis ever since, the most recent in November of 2010, when he was nominated for a posthumous bestowal of the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor, the highest military award within the State of Texas.

A few months before I was born, a young man from Edinburg, Texas earned the Medal of Honor while serving in my father's company in Vietnam. According to my father, Sgt. Alfredo "Freddie" Gonzalez was "no boast, no brag, but all fight." To those of you who have earned the title, you know there is no greater compliment for a Marine.

Sgt. Gonzalez was conspicuous for the whole last week of his life, performing two separate acts of heroism that were worthy of recommending him for the Medal of Honor. After some minor deliberation, it was decided to give him one Medal of Honor for the whole week.

Freddie Gonzalez joined the Marine Corps in 1965. After serving one tour as a rifleman in Vietnam, he became an instructor at Camp Lejeune, teaching guerrilla warfare skills to new boots. He expected to serve out the remainder of the war in that billet. But, like the stuff in the movies, he felt compelled to return to Vietnam when he heard that almost a whole platoon, many of whom had served under him, were killed in an ambush. He returned to Vietnam, and was sent to Alpha 1/1.

During the Tet Offensive, Alpha 1/1 was ordered to relieve the MACV compound in Hue City. Locating some trucks, the Marines of Alpha Company headed up Highway 1, and were stopped by ambush. Gonzalez fought his way up to the ambushers and the convoy proceeded on. They had to fight their way in to Hue, and Gonzalez was slightly wounded while carrying a wounded Marine to safety. The company became heavily engaged as soon as they arrived in Hue, and Gonzalez was seriously wounded, but refused evacuation. The next day, Gonzalez fought ferociously, using anti-tank weapons (LAAWs) to destroy an enemy rocket position. The last rocket fired from that position mortally wounded Gonzalez.

This was a man who had several chances to not be where he was, and went anyway. He gave his life in a cause that more affluent Americans, like Bill Clinton, couldn't fathom. Bill Clinton likes to tell the story of growing up poor, but Freddie Gonzalez was the real deal, and yet he could believe in a cause that was greater than himself. I hope that in the future, the Freddie Gonzalez's of America will be more fondly remembered than the Bill Clinton's.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as platoon commander, 3d Platoon, Company A. On 31 January 1968, during the initial phase of Operation Hue City, Sgt. Gonzalez' unit was formed as a reaction force and deployed to Hue to relieve the pressure on the beleaguered city. While moving by truck convoy along Route No. 1, near the village of Lang Van Lrong, the marines received a heavy volume of enemy fire. Sgt. Gonzalez aggressively maneuvered the marines in his platoon, and directed their fire until the area was cleared of snipers. Immediately after crossing a river south of Hue, the column was again hit by intense enemy fire. One of the marines on top of a tank was wounded and fell to the ground in an exposed position. With complete disregard for his safety, Sgt. Gonzalez ran through the fire-swept area to the assistance of his injured comrade. He lifted him up and though receiving fragmentation wounds during the rescue, he carried the wounded marine to a covered position for treatment. Due to the increased volume and accuracy of enemy fire from a fortified machine gun bunker on the side of the road, the company was temporarily halted. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Sgt. Gonzalez exposed himself to the enemy fire and moved his platoon along the east side of a bordering rice paddy to a dike directly across from the bunker. Though fully aware of the danger involved, he moved to the fire-swept road and destroyed the hostile position with hand grenades. Although seriously wounded again on 3 February, he steadfastly refused medical treatment and continued to supervise his men and lead the attack. On 4 February, the enemy had again pinned the company down, inflicting heavy casualties with automatic weapons and rocket fire. Sgt. Gonzalez, utilizing a number of light antitank assault weapons, fearlessly moved from position to position firing numerous rounds at the heavily fortified enemy emplacements. He successfully knocked out a rocket position and suppressed much of the enemy fire before falling mortally wounded. The heroism, courage, and dynamic leadership displayed by Sgt. Gonzalez reflected great credit upon himself and the Marine Corps, and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.

In 1996, the United States Navy named a guided missile cruiser after Gonzalez. His mother has adopted the ship, and God bless those sailors, they have adopted her. His hometown of Edinburg, Texas has named an elementary school and a major road in his honor. And in Quantico, Virginia, at the school where Marine Corps officers are taught the history and traditions of our great Corps, there is an Alfredo Gonzalez Hall.

Zipped up in a body bag

In 1989-1990, my parents lived next door to the Col. Russell H. Sutton, USMC. I was visiting them in the summer of 1990, when I noticed the neighbor out mowing his lawn without his shirt on. The number of scars on his body was unreal.

I went inside and asked my dad what happened to him, and in typical Marine fashion, he laughed and said he got shot to doll rags. After a little prying, I found out that Col. Sutton was zipped up in a body bag, although he apparently was not quite dead.

Col. Sutton lost his left eye in that ordeal. Notice the pistol expert badge. I shoot a pistol with both eyes open, maybe General Sutton didn't, but I am still impressed.

For the Marine Corps Birthday Ball, General Sutton has a glass eye with the Eagle, Globe and Anchor on it. Apparently a trickster, he also has a spare eye he often drops in people's drinks.

General Sutton has been awarded the Bronze Star for Valor four times. Considering the scar damage on his torso, I am amazed that he only has two Purple Hearts. In researching General Sutton, I was disappointed at the lack of information available. If anyone knows him, or knows about him, please leave comments. I know his wife was Linda Lee Sutton, of the Virginia Lee's. Her father was a legendary WWI Marine, who I believe retired as a Colonel.

In 1980, my family left the closest place to Heaven on Earth, and moved to Norfolk, Va, where my father was to attend the Armed Forces Staff College. The day we arrived, we learned that an old family friend was also attending, and would be living right down the street from us. I went with dad as he walked down the street to greet this old friend, and I will never forget my first meeting with Wayne Rollings.

He was young looking to me, and I was only 11. He had a chew of tobacco in his cheek that would have choked a mule, and he held a yellow solo cup in his right hand, which was missing two fingers. And the thing I remember most was when he spoke, he had such a pronounced Southern accent that I couldn't understand a word he said.

The Rollings had three children, a daughter my age, a son a few years younger, and then another daughter not yet school age. Because of the friendship of our fathers, and the fact that we were Marine children (who chew nails while other kids suck on cotton candy), we became good friends. I was, after a few days, able to understand Major Rollings drawl.

Wayne Rollings was the first person in my memory that I would have described as a PT stud. He was a physical machine. He had joined the Marine Corps in 1960, and served until 1965, when he got out and went to college. He came back into the Corps in 1968 as a second lieutenant, and was almost immediately sent to Vietnam.

In September of 1969, then Lieutenant Rollings earned the Navy Cross while leading a Force Recon patrol deep in enemy controlled territory. When his patrol was engaged, he advanced under fire to protect his point man, who had some trouble with his weapon. Then he charged the withdrawing enemy troops, taking a piece of high ground where he was able to call in air strikes on all the possible escape routes of the enemy troops. He was wounded by grenade shrapnel and had several bullets go through his clothing, and one hit his gas mask, ripping it off his waist. He was also awarded two Silver Stars and a Bronze Star, and did another tour in Vietnam in 1972 as an advisor to the South Vietnamese Marines.

In 1981, he would set a world record for sit-ups. He did 40,000 in 16 hours, and only quit cause he had to pee. I think I can safely say that I haven't done 40,000 sit-ups in my whole life (in fairness, I haven't done any since my discharge from the Marine Corps.) For several years, he and some slobbering Soviet traded the record back and forth, but in '81, Rollings put it out of reach. The Russian later beat his total by doing sets of 5,000. If Rollings had done them in sets, he'd still be doing sit-ups.

Wayne Rollings went on to become a Major General. He is still a PT stud. His son served in the Marine Corps in Iraq, and his second daughter is married to a Marine. Again, a single family has taken on more of the burden so so many don't have to. I wonder if Obama thinks this is "fair"?

This evening, my wife is watching a co-worker's young daughter, for free, Mud and Jeff, cause that's how people treat each other. My four daughters are of course tickled to have a little baby in the house (the child in question is about 5 months younger than my youngest). My kids wanted to watch a Christmas movie, and my wife gave them a choice between "The Grinch" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". My six year old wanted to watch the Grinch, but the rest voted for Rudolph.

So, to explain the voting to our guest, my four year old told her, "The Grinch is a scary movie. There's a Grinch in it."

Bill Cosby could do a whole years worth of shows with her in less than four hours.

On Heaven and Hell

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.

My children and I were watching "The Patriot", and out of curiosity, I googled the Swamp Fox. The resulting four hours at the computer was definitely time well spent. Somehow, through the magic of the internet, I was able to go from Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, one of the key military Founding Fathers, to Col. John Ripley, who I knew as a kid. I never really thought of him as a hero, until one day my father, who I always considered a hero, told me that he never met a braver man than John Ripley. What he did under that bridge at Dong Ha is absolute proof that truth is stranger than fiction. If the story wasn't true, it would be unbelievable.

Col. John W. Ripley was a contemporary of my father's in the Marine Corps. An amazing man, with an amazing story. He had two brothers who were also outstanding Marines, and the first person I met when I checked into the First Battalion, Eighth Marines was his son, who, for a second lieutenant, was also a pretty good Marine. The Ripley family has given a lot to this country. And they are just one example of a family with a tradition of defending the freedom of their fellow citizens.

In the Marine Corps, we have a term: Marine, Junior. That is a term used to describe a man who has followed in his father's footsteps, very often against the father's advice. As a Marine, I ran into lots of young men who had famous last names. And I ran in to lots of Marines whose fathers had been Marines, famous in their own minds, if not in the rest of ours. I guess the point is, a very few families have carried the burden for a great many families. I hope they all at least understand that, if not appreciate it. Those same families will more than likely continue to pay the heavy price of freedom, so that the protected will never know just how much it costs.

If the Republican Party wants to win this race, they need to get behind a true conservative. I believe the only one still in the race is Michelle Bachman. I think Herman Cain would have fit the bill. And what does it say about the Republicans that the guy they choose out of this crowd to face Obama is the fat white guy? I think they are trying to set us up for failure.

Recently, in Montana, a contractor built a house without buying a single thing made in a foreign country. The cost difference to the homeowner - 1%. For 1% more money, you can build your house while putting only Americans to work. Why wouldn't you do that?

But I have another challenge to throw out. Why not buy everything you use from here in the USA? Clothing, groceries, vehicles, appliances, computers. Everything we buy is being made somewhere in America. And none of it will have lead paint, or be sewn in a sweat shop by an eight year old slave child. None of your money will leave the USA, supporting God knows what kind of criminal activity. And none of our money will go to China, so when our idiots in Washington go ask them for more money, they'll have to say, "So solly, no money here."

Buy an American made vehicle. Buy American made gasoline, made from American mined and refined oil. Buy American made clothing made of American grown cotton. Buy TVs, microwave ovens, computers, and cell phone made right here. If every American would vow to only buy American products, we would see our economy boom, and we'd see the rest of the world looking to us for stuff, the way they used to before liberal shitheads took over our country.

Uh, er, when do you need my decision?

On December 8th, we lost a chunk of machinery somewhere over Iran. The chunk costs about as much as Obama is worth (I can hear you all chuckling and saying the chunk can't possibly be that inexpensive). Some poor general had to come to Obama and tell him we have a situation. Obama would have quickly said, "Uh, er what exactly, um, do you, uhh, mean?" The general would have then told the Comkmander-in-Chief that one of our extremely high tech drones was spying over Iran, and it went down. Then Obama would have started his decision making process: Hit the links, and hope the situation either goes away or resolves itself before he has to do his job.

Sorry, Mr. President, but the Iranians have our drone. It is possible that the drone malfunctioned, but the Iranians are claiming that they brought it down using, get this, electronic ambush. Uh, who, um, er that is, uh, they can do that?

Officers in the Revolutionary Guard, Iran's most powerful military force, have claimed the country's armed forces brought down the surveillance aircraft with an electronic ambush, causing minimum damage to the drone.

As you can see from this photo, the drone does not give the appearance of having crashed. It does apparently have an "auto land" setting, but could the Iranians have decoded it and given it commands to land? Maybe.

In 1980, the US military attempted to rescue the hostages in our Iranian Embassy. It was a total flop. We had to destroy several aircraft that had been disabled. We did that to keep the technology in those aircraft from falling into the wrong hands. In 1973, my dad destroyed several howitzers before being overrun at An Hoa. He did that to keep those guns from being used by the enemy. The point is, when that drone went down in Iranian territory, it should have been destroyed immediately. But our chief decision maker is pretty slow off the ball, and before he could weigh the pros and cons, the Iranians were posting pictures of our drone all over the world.

As a result of Obama's dereliction of duty, Iran is, among other things, going to sue us for invading their country. Part of Obama's piss poor decision not to destroy the drone was because he was worried that the Iranians would consider it an act of war. Well, Captain Dumbass, they already consider the drone an act of war, but now they have the drone, chock full of high-tech secrets that THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD DOESN'T WANT IRAN TO HAVE. Smooth move, asshole.

Iranian lawmaker Parviz Sorouri, a member of the parliament's national security and foreign policy committee, said Monday the extracted information will be used to file a lawsuit against the United States for what he called the "invasion" by the unmanned aircraft

Backlash for Lowe's as ads pulled from Muslim show

Good for Lowe's. It is a huge pleasure to see an American company have more concern for American citizens than the frigging President.

Here in the good old US of A, we believe in freedom of speech. If Lowe's doesn't want to be associated with this show, or any other show, that is Lowe's business. If people want to boycott Lowe's, they should. But people who agree with Lowe's that this show about Muslim's doesn't represent the values that they believe in, should shop at Lowe's.

I'll be real curious to see what impact, if any, a boycott of Lowe's will have. I spend a good amount of time in Lowe's, and I am a bit of a bigot, if you call keeping an eye out for possibly dangerous people bigotry. I do not recall seeing many Muslims in Lowe's. I'm sure that some of the local Arab people shop there, but for the most part, our local merchants are not radically Muslim. I have seen a few Muslim women in their get-ups around town, but I don't recall ever seeing any in Lowe's. But maybe the men who make their wives toe that line won't let them pick out paint or floor coverings.

Call off the amber alert

About three months ago, a commenter on this and other blogs went missing. No one filed a report, cause no one wanted him back.

After reading the comments of a new poster, we decided that Jio was holding Jeff hostage, and forcing him to write comments in Jio's name. As soon as we figured this out, Jio sold Jeff to Northwest OhioNative, who also forced Jeff to make incomprehensible posts in attempts to "educate us lesser life forms."

Since Jio, NWON, and Jeff are so sensitive to accusations of idiocy, they all lost what little marbles they had, and in embarrassment, disappeared from our presence. The last one, NorthwestOhioNative, left in a huff, unable to cope with the fact that we didn't believe any of his made up credentials, such as his USDA stamp of non-racism.

Well, good news. Jeff has managed to escape his straight-jacket and is now posting demented bullshit under his own name. This absolutely proves that Jeff, Jio, and NorthwestOhioNative can't be the same person, as NON has promised (on Muddy's blog at least) that he will not return to our "alternate universe".

Nothing worked. All I got in return were threats, name calling and persons trying to disclose more personal information about me than I wanted posted on the Internet.
However, I did learn a few things. My God but there are some uninformed people who write and comment on blogs. And I have never seen the extent of outright lying in my life.

Really? Are you implying that anyone lies more than you, Jeff? Get a grip. Or some sedatives. And quit accusing people of "using" sick children to make some point. You obviously use your illness as a crutch.

Heroes come in all sizes

For the past few days, my satellite service has been out, due to lack of payment. So I have been getting my news from the internet. I ran across a story that wrecked me, but lifted me up at the same time.

Down in Florida, there is a little eight year old boy who has had a rough life. He has spent more than half of his life battling brain cancer. Recently, he told his mom he doesn't want her to be mad at him, but he doesn't want to fight the cancer any more. If that doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you aren't human.

The reason this young man's story came to my attention is because of a guy named Tim Tebow. I had heard of Tebow, and had heard that he was a Christian, and apparently a devout one. I have heard that he is catching a lot of shit for his freedom of religion, and that pissed me off, but I didn't look into it any deeper. I just chalked it up to the sorriness of our media and our public schools, that they haven't turned out more citizens, as opposed to the sorry Bill Maher like pieces of shit who play for the Detroit Lions.

Anyway, after last Sundays game, Tebow was interviewed, and he said the highlight of his week was getting to speak to his hero, Blake Appleton, on the phone. Then Tebow turned around and left the press wondering who Blake Appleton was.

Young Blake is a tough little man. This eight year old boy is trying to help his mother come to grips with his own demise. That is a tough thing for a parent to do for a child, yet here is this boy, helping his mother to understand that it will be alright. My heart breaks for his parents.

Blake has a facebook page, where people can leave thoughts and prayers for him and his family. I pray for a peaceful rest of his life, and I pray that his parents can enjoy every minute they get with him. And I hug my own children just a little tighter.

Tim Tebow isn't the only Christian in pro football, so I don't know why he is catching so much shit for his faith. A few years ago, Earl Campbell knelt in the end-zone after every touchdown, giving thanks to God. And even more recently than that, after games, members of both teams would kneel on the field and pray. Together! Maybe that's taking things a little too far. But recently, athletes have been getting away from God. I don't particularly like it. Anyone that can actually get payed for playing a game should thank God loudly and often.

I was fortunate enough to see this following clip when it aired. I had never heard of Cam Newton, but I had heard of Bill Maher. Maher is the piece of shit sitting next to Cam Newton. Notice the atheist says not a word as this strapping young man gives God the credit for his success. It was certainly a moment worth seeing, especially since I had watched Maher spew hate for fifteen minutes before Newton came out.

Pray for this little boy, and his family. And remember, dying isn't so bad, we all have to do it. It's living that should be done well, and Tim Tebow has helped this little boy enjoy a pretty rough life. God bless him, and the Appletons.

My last attempt at discovering intelligent life in the right-wing of the GOP was my search for it among the right-wing blogs. I spent quite a few days, months really, focusing my telescope on that segment of biological organisms, looking anxiously, hopefully for some sign, even the most minute indication of minimal higher-level brain functioning. Yet, there was none. No evidence, no indication thereof.
As a result I have turned off my radio telescope. Not because of lack of interest, mind you, but for lack of hope.

I guess we'll be hearing from these two moonbats in time to spoil Christmas.

On another blog, I mentioned that the RNC is trying to give us a "Ferdinand the Bull" in Mitt Romney. Ferdinand was the bull who would rather sniff flowers than fight. Willard gives me the same impression. I have absolutely no faith in him to take the fight to the Democrats. Hell, I think he is a Democrat.

What we really need right now is a candidate who is ruthless in his attacks on the Dems, the President, every damn liberal he gets in his sights. I have the perfect analogy, if not the perfect candidate. What we need is a fellow named BO. No, not Barak Obama. I'm talking about a bull named Bodacious.

It is fairly easy to imagine Democrats like Harry Reid and especially Nancy Pelosi as clowns. Hell, its hard to imagine them as anything but. What we need is a candidate that is going to tromp, stomp and trample these clowns. And when the broken pieces all settle down, we need a candidate that will turn around and shit on them.

In the current field, I think Newt Gingrich is the one doing the best job of stomping Obama and his evil minions. But I'd sure like to see the rest of them pile on. That would be more of a Spanish twist to my story:

Occupy Ruby Tuesday's

My wife recently started waiting tables at Ruby Tuesday's. Thanks to a freind who needed maternity leave, my wife was able to get her foot in the door. Even though we are not "in" a recession, times are hard, and jobs are scarce, so we are thankful. But, apparently times are hard enough for people to cut back on tipping, but not on going out to eat.

Tipping used to be a "science" that was taught in school. I remember doing word problems in math in gradeschool that involved figuring the proper tip. Either our liberal schools have quit teaching that, or our liberal citizens have adopted an "Occupy" mindset, and feel service is their right, not something they should pay extra for. Or perhaps its both.

Like CS's observations on the type of voter that lives in a house that displays the American flag, my observation of the type of voter that tips generously tends to support my theory that conservatives are just better citizens than liberals.

The other night, my wife had the privilege of waiting on a large party; seventeen people, two adults and fifteen children. They came in at 11pm, and stayed until 12:30. One of the adults paid for her meal and four of the children. The other adult paid for her meal and one child's. The other ten children paid for their own meals. That is admirable, but it created a lot more work. Work that should have been rewarded with tips. For the whole party, my wife earned her wages ($2.14/hr, times 1.5, $3.21, not counting the other tables she was working at the same time) plus the exorbitant amount of:

$13.10.

The total bill for the meals was over $225. The behavior of the customers was below the expectations of polite society. So, for putting up with rudeness, for putting up with the extra work of twelve separate bills, for putting up with having customers after closing time (the restaurant closes at midnight on weekends), my wife was shorted $20.65. And, out of the tips she did receive, she had to tip out to the hostess, who seated these rude customers at her table (gee, thanks), and the bus boy, who had to help clean up after these children.

I won't go into any demographics about this group of people, other than two "adults" and fifteen "children", but I can be 99.44% certain they supported Mr. Obama. And I can also be certain that they had a feeling of "deserving" treatment they didn't earn. And, I can assume that the oldest among them had been cheated by the Department of Education of Jimmy Carter. And I know that that Department cheated them on purpose, in order to create Obama type voters.

Rules for tipping:

Wait staff	15% - 20% of the total bill before taxes (Note: some restaurants now suggest tipping after taxes because servers thenselves tip out on the after tax amount).
Wine served with dinner	The safe recommendation is to tip 15-20% of the total bill, including alcohol, even for expensive bottles of wine. However, we've seen some restaurants say it's OK to tip around 10% for expensive wines.
Bartenders	15% - 20% of the tab; or, $1 for beer or wine, $2 for mixed drinks. Ideally, pay your bar tab before leaving for your table.
Order at front	If you order at the front and food is delivered to your table, it depends. If, once you've ordered, the seating and decor compare with a standard, sit-down restaurant, tip 5%-10%. If the food is delivered to your table only as a convenience, tipping is not necessary.

When the wife and I were able to afford dining out, we always tipped generously, for two reasons. We feel we should reward the people who make our experiences enjoyable, and, we always took at least one small child with us that the waitresses would ooh and aah over. And I believe in rewarding people with good taste.

But since we have fallen on Obamic times, we no longer go out to eat. Not because we couldn't occasionally scrape together enough cash for a meal, but because we are unwilling to pay for something we consider a luxury. Eating at a restaurant is a luxury; no one has a right to it. So if you are going to go out and eat, remember that those people aren't your mothers; they are there to earn money, not babysit you and your kids.

I have for the first time in my life begged for work. I have four small children, and they are all expecting Santa to show up because, overall, they've been good. I am probably gonna have to call in the Marines this year, as I have no means of providing Christmas this year.

When my dad was a youth, their Christmases were a new pair of shoes and $2 out of the Sears catalog. All of my fairly well off life, I have thought dad and his siblings were poor. This year, I think they had it made. This year, I would be happy to have $2 per child. I wonder what that would be, adjusted for inflation? More than I should hope for, I guess.

My children like to make wishes, on birthday candles, and the Evening Star. Without fail, they always wish daddy had a lot of money. My Granny used to say, "if you wish in one hand and [spit] in the other, which one would fill up first?" I get it, Granny.

To be completely honest, my kids aren't hurting for anything. And they'll get gifts from Dad and his wife, and my baby brother wasn't as dumb as me and the other brother, so he didn't go into the construction business. He's a teacher, so he's got lots of money. But my middle brother is also broke. And all that is really not the point. It does something to a man's pride to not be able to buy Christmas for his kids.

I wonder how Sasha and Malia will make out under the tree this year? I bet they do okay. Especially since their daddy is a Muslim. I bet Barak won't even buy their gifts himself. What a f'ed up world we live in, huh?

Maybe Newt ain't so bad

Newt Gingrich was born on June 17, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. His mother Kathleen Daugherty and father Newton Searles McPherson divorced soon after Newt was born. Kathleen remarried to an Army officer named Robert Gingrich, who adopted the boy. Gingrich has three younger half-sisters, Candace, Susan, and Roberta.
Growing up, Gingrich's family moved around frequently, like many military families. He graduated from Baker High School in Columbus, Georgia, and received a B.A. from Emory University in 1965.

I can certainly associate myself with moving frequently; by the time I was eighteen, I had lived in three trailers, five apartments, and twenty-one houses. By the time I graduated high school, I had been enrolled in ten different schools. I believe that moving all over the country made me a better citizen, and I bet it did the same for Gingrich. Maybe it didn't make him, or me, a better person, but I don't have any doubt that Newt loves America just as much as I do. Having seen the whole damn place, I know what is good about America.

I would prefer that Newt had spent some time in the service himself, but compared to someone like Willard, who thinks his sons are serving the country by trying to get him elected, Newt understands what real service looks like. So I like that about him.

I think I can live with Newt's stance on immigration. Personally, I feel the best way to secure our border is to arrest people for hiring illegal aliens. I believe letting some of these employers spend five months in Martha Stewart jail would effectively shut down illegal immigration. As for the drugs and other stuff crossing the border, we need to decide just how bad we don't want that crap here, then take appropriate actions. Seriously, you don't have a "war" with cops. If we have really declared a war on drugs, we should be fighting it with troops. And we should be killing the people responsible for sending all that crap over here. And for all you liberal turds who think the drugs are coming here because American druggies are demanding them, I say kill them, too. Lower the cost of healthcare, jails, government handouts. Remove the dregs of society, improve the society.

I think I can live with Newt's philosophy on globull warming. I tend to agree with him. We should cut back on our carbon emissions; if not cause it may be damaging the atmosphere, then because we should leave something in the trough for those coming after us. Probably more because of the Obama Depression than any vain attempt at saving the planet, I have already cut my driving down to only when absolutely necessary. We no longer run to the store when we need butter or eggs (although with a yard full of chickens, we rarely need for eggs). We make lists, and stop at the store on the way from more important business. And my children do not like it when they miss the school bus. I already paid for the gas in that bus, so I get irate with them when I have to buy more gas to take them to school.

So, I think I may be able to get on the Newt bandwagon. An added bonus to Newt: He will decimate Obowma in a debate. Even MudPILE would have to admit that.

Sunday is George Washington's real birthday, an appropriate time to consider the faith of America's most important founding father.

At age 13 George transcribed "110 Rules for Young Gentlemen," written by Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits in the 1590's. George memorized them. They teach that man is God's servant who lives not for self, but for others. They became part of his character:

"Let your conversation be without malice or envy...

"When you speak of God or His attributes, be serious and speak with words of reverence.

"Let your recreations be manful, and not sinful.

At age 20, he wrote prayers to say each morning and evening. On Sunday mornings he prayed: "...pardon, I beseech Thee, my sins; remove them from Thy presence, as far as the east is from the west, and accept me for the merits of Thy son, Jesus Christ..."

At 23 Captain Washington was caught in a surprise ambush by the French and Indians near what is now Pittsburgh. Every British and American officer was shot but Washington though he rode back and forth across the battlefield. George later wrote to his brother, "By the all powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation, for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, yet escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me."

On July 2, 1776 he told his troops: "The fate of unborn millions will now depend, under God, on the courage of this army. Our cruel and unrelenting enemy leaves us only the choice of brave resistance or the most abject submission. We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die."

Seven weeks later British General Howe had trapped Washington and his 8,000 troops on Brooklyn Heights, ready to crush them the next morning. Washington gathered every vessel from fishing to row boats and spent all night ferrying his army across the East River. By morning many troops were still exposed to the British.

"In a most unusual change in weather, the fog did not lift from the river. It stayed thick, covering Washington's retreat until the entire army had evacuated and escaped," writes William Federer in his inspiring book, "America's God and Country." Never again did the British have such a rare chance to win the war.

During the freezing winter of 1777 at Valley Forge, a dozen soldiers died a day, with many not having blankets or shoes. "Feet and legs froze till they became black," and were amputated wrote a Committee from Congress. A Quaker named Isaac Potts came upon Washington upon his knees in the snow, praying aloud for his beloved country. He thanked God for exalting him to the head of a great nation which was fighting at fearful odds.

The Quaker told his wife of the sight: "Till now I have thought that a Christian and a solider were characters incompatible, but if George Washington not be a man of God I am mistaken, and still more I shall be disappointed in God does not through him perform some great thing for this country."

On May 5, 1778 Washington learned that the French would join America as allies. The General told his troops, "It having pleased the Almighty Ruler of the universe to defend the cause of the United American States, and finally to raise up a powerful friend among the princes of the earth, to establish our liberty, and independence upon a lasting foundation, it becomes us to set apart a day for gratefully acknowledging the divine goodness..."
In 1781 Washington's southern army defeated a detachment of British troops. Lord Cornwallis was infuriated and began pursuing the outnumbered Americans. He waited the night at the Catawba River, which the U.S. troops had crossed just two hours earlier. Miraculously, a storm arose during the night causing the river to be uncrossable for five days. Cornwallis nearly overtook Americans at the Yadkin River, but another flood arose, allowing Americans to escape.

The French navy seized control of the Chesapeake Aug. 30, 1781, driving out British ships. Washington rejoiced and besieged Cornwallis' stronghold at Yorktown. With no ships to escape upon, Cornwallis surrendered.

Washington wrote Congress, "I take a particular pleasure in acknowledging that the interposing Hand of Heaven...has been most conspicuous and remarkable."

Washington had more near escapes than victories. Would God have protected him from bullets, and saved his troops with fog and floods - had he not been a praying man?

A "poster" posed the question of whether General Thomas Gage was guided by his Christian faith. In attempting to research General Gage's faith, I never found any more than passing mention that his father quit the Catholic Church and joined the Anglican Church, and later young Thomas grew to hate the Catholic Church. But in researching the Father of Our Country, I found a plethora of information on his faith.

In recent years, "historians" have made attempts to paint Washington as a Deist, as they have done with a majority of our Founding Fathers. I'm pretty sure these so called historians are attempting to alter history for their own agendas. George Washington was without doubt a Christian, and a devout one at that. In all of his public successes, he gave thanks to God, and he implored his men and his countrymen to acknowledge God's assistance and insistence that they should be free.

Anyone who argues that George Washington was not a firm believer in Divine Providence is obviously willfully suspending disbelief. For, in Cornwallis' words, "an army of rabble" to defeat the world's greatest army, Divine Intervention is easily believable.

As for Mud's theory that General Robert E. Lee, a devout Christian, losing to Ulysses S. Grant, a non-Church goer, my theory is that Robert E. Lee was on the wrong side of God's will. It pains me to say it, but Lee's tactical errors and failure to take full advantage of his brilliant victories show me that he did not have God's favor. Perhaps God felt "what God has joined together, let no man tear asunder." I certainly feel that way. I still feel that way as Obama and his minions are attempting to tear down God's works right now.

And we can still look to the Father of Our Country for guidance:

Is the Bible a historical reference? Our own resident atheist has surmised that it isn't, so I have resorted to research to prove him wrong (as if this is necessary).

Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, there are numerous references to historical facts. The names and occupations of well and lesser known people and events have been proven through scientific research. For our uneducated guests, that is research done by scientists, some of whom, in spite of enormous evidence to the contrary, are atheists. These scientists perform tasks called archaeology, where they dig in and around the ruins of old building sites, searching for clues to the inhabitants of said buildings. Some of these scientists discovered ancient manuscripts, which they then translated. In the case of archaeological digs in the area of Judea, they have found numerous scientific facts supporting the Bible, but oddly enough, there has never been an archaeological discovery to disprove the Bible.

Iran Has Mountains? Who knew?

Our good friend and liberal mentor, Mud, is just learning to do research, so we should all applaud his efforts. However, he is still not very good at it, so I am going to help him make his point.

Recently, Mud left a comment on the Occupy Toledo post that really doesn't fit in, so I will dedicate a new post to address Mud's concerns.

Commander-in-Chief Herman Cain: ""Remember when you talk about attacking Iran it is a very mountainous region."

Now, I admit I have no idea what Mud is attempting to point out, but by using Mud's history of being a liberal jackass, I can assume he means to denigrate Mr. Cain's intelligence in some way. Not wanting to run off at the mouth, like Mud does, I did a little research on Iran, and surprise, surprise, it is absolutely covered in mountains. So obviously, Mud isn't trying to say Cain is stupid, so what is he implying?

I googled the quote Mud cited, and found the whole comment. When viewing the whole statement, it appears that Mr. Cain was making the case that intelligence would be vital in attempting to pre-emptively take out Iran's nuclear weapons program.

"Remember, when you talk about attacking Iran, it is a very mountainous region. The latest reports say that there may be 40 different locations, and I would want to make sure that we had a good idea from intelligence sources where these are located," Cain said during a debate.

After viewing several maps and reading several articles on Iran's topography, I have come to agree with Mr. Cain. Iran is a very mountainous country.

Iran is located in southwest Asia and borders the Gulf of Oman, Persian Gulf, and Caspian Sea. As we get ready to give thanks, (to God), for the bountiful gifts He has given us, I was curious about the origins of this holiday. Since so many atheists fill the ranks of the Obama "faithful", I was curious about why we give thanks to God on the fourth Thursday of November every year.

The Holiday has its origins in the Plimoth Colony of Massachusetts. An odd starting point for praising God, but they weren't always moonbats. After a very hard first year, the Pilgrims were ecstatic at the bounty of their first harvest in the New World, so they had a celebration. After feasting and "practicing their arms", a force of 90 braves arrived as reinforcements. Finding out the strange custom of these newcomers, the Indians sent out a hunting party, killed a few deer, and joined in the festivities.

A few years later, embroiled in a war with the strongest enemy on the planet, George Washington, the Greatest American of all time, issued a proclamation:

In 1863, a woman named Sarah Hale sent several letters to Abraham Lincoln, urging him to set a permanent day of thanksgiving. She is the source of our current holiday.

"The humble gratitude of the Christian heart." Because, boys and girls, we were a Christian nation. As part of Abraham Lincoln's proclamation to create a national holiday, he said the following:

Lincoln also laid the blame for America's prosperity squarely on the shoulders of the Almighty:

This year, things are pretty ugly in America. We have a Communist in the Oval Office. We have record numbers of our citizens without employment. We are experiencing outrageous inflation, and both parties of our elected leadership have proven to be worthless. But we can still bend our knee to our Creator, and give prayerful thanks for the bounty of America. As Edward Winslow said of that first Thanksgiving in Massachusetts in 1621:

Remember, the truth will set you free. We are a Christian Nation. Chicken Pot Pie

I just butchered 25 young chickens. When I butcher chickens, I save three or four as whole roasters, and I cut up the rest for friers. After cutting up the chickens, which I filet the breasts off, I boil the carcasses and pick off all the meat. These scraps are great for chicken salad or pot pies.

Boil some chicken. I use chicken carcasses, but if you're buying chicken, use a whole cut up frier. Add palmful of salt, half that much pepper, two shakes of thyme, and one shake of rosemary to six cups of water, add chicken, and boil for 15 minutes. Remove chicken and break it up into bite size pieces.

In a pot, empty two cans of mixed vegetables, drained. Add the chicken pieces. Put the heat on low.

In a skillet, melt half a stick of butter. Stir in a third of a cup of all purpose flour. Add one and a half cups of hot broth and one cup cream. When this is blended well, add it to the chicken and veggies.

Meanwhile, on a different counter, put a crust in a pie pan. You can buy pre-made crusts, or make one from scratch. To make one from scratch (much better) put three cups of flour in a bowl. Add a half teaspoon of salt. Cut in one cup of lard. When its all folded together, add one quarter to one half cup of cold water until the dough forms a ball. Divide in half, and roll out on the counter. Put one crust in the pie pan. Add the filling, then put the other crust on top. Put a slit in the top crust to vent it, and bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.

If you do this right, it will crack your face, its so delicious.

Our good friend and leftist mentor, Mud, has posted a piece on voter fraud, in which he surmises that the Republican party suppresses the votes of lower income minorities such as blacks, Latinos, and even low income whites. As is usual for our friend Mud, he neglects to mention the dead people and illegal immigrants that so overwhelmingly vote Democrat. Mr. Mud also forgets such incidents as the New Black Panther thugs Shebaz Sheboozle and the other one, who menacingly threatened voters in an effort to suppress votes.

But he does have a point. Republicans have historically suppressed minority voters, especially in the post-Civil War South. Remember the Ku Klux Klan? Weren't they Republicans? And what about Bull Connor?

In 1938, Connor became a candidate for Governor of Alabama. He announced he would be campaigning on a platform of "protecting employment practices, law enforcement, segregation and other problems that have been historically classified as states' rights by the Democratic party."

Whoops. Looks like old Bull was a Democrat. I wonder where Mud found factual evidence of Republican voter suppression? I'm betting he didn't. Funny how he is about facts, huh?

Fifty percent of black males between 18 and 24 don't have picture ID? How do they cash a check? The idea that requiring a photo ID to vote as suppressing a right is absolutely ludicrous. In most states, if a policeman asks you to identify yourself, you are required to show him your photo ID. Unless you are an illegal immigrant. Then the very idea of asking you to identify yourself is a violation of your civil rights. Bullshit.

I must admit I was surprised by our equally good friend Jeff disagreeing with the Mudster. Sometimes Jeff confuses me. Sometimes he seems like a normal human.

The first question I get asked when this subject is brought up is how widespread is voter fraud. I can’t answer because I don’t know what is considered voter fraud to even begin searching for statistics..
While talking with someone recently, I was surprised to learn that an I.D. was required for food stamps in Ohio. It seems that voting is the only personal activity that doesn’t require a photo I.D.; in Ohio voting does require some sort of I.D., just not photo. I am also aware that in the legislation proposed requiring a photo I.D., State Of Ohio photo I.D.’s would be offered to anyone free of charge.
When you say early voting took place directly after church it sounds like you’re saying the civil responsibility of voting can be tied to attending church. Anything remotely tying church membership to government voting throws up some red flags. I would estimate (conservatively) over 50% of church leaders “encourage” their members to vote a certain way. I’m sure you know how I would feel about someone saying “I can make it to church, but not to vote.”
My personal view is that early voting is unnecessary as the polls are open 13 hours election day, voting stations are spread around to be near the precinct residences and absentee voting is very easy. As an older person, I seem to recall that many, many democrats were elected before early voting was implemented. I will concede that getting to the voting station may have become more of an issue now that precinct voting locations have been combined; but wasn’t this done because travel to the voting locations has become so much easier than a century ago? Would the precinct voting locations be more spread out if early voting was abolished?
Voter I.D.’s are a harder question issue to decide. It depends on what you consider voter fraud. What I consider voter fraud, you might just consider a fact of life.
Seriously, you could provide free door to door taxi service (some places do) and you’d still get a low voter turnout. And I think some pieces of crap will always be elected due to the buying power of special interest groups. Don’t you think if a person cares enough to “really” learn about ballot issues, they’ll be smart enough and have enough drive to get to the polls? Once again, I may be giving today’s American voters too much credit.

The real suppression of votes occurs in our schools, where they no longer emphasize the civic responsibility of voting. To grow up not caring about your vote should be a crime, but how do you punish someone for avarice? You can't take away something that an individual has already thrown away. Maybe Mud just likes to whine and bitch. He really should do better research.

Over ten thousand Marines would be wounded or killed in the next three weeks, but as always, the Marines would take the ground.

On November 11, 1918, only five months after the Allied Forces turned the Devil Dogs loose on the German's, the Kaiser had had enough, and The War to End All Wars came to an end. Unfortunately, the memory of some peoples is short, so the Marine Corps, and the US Army, Navy and later Air Force, have had to re-iterate the lesson of Belleau Wood again and again since 1918. Issue 2 fails: Ohio goes deeper in the toilet

Yesterday, Ohio voters defeated a measure that would stop collective bargaining for Ohio unions. It is a shame that people don't understand the serious implications here.

Because of collective bargaining, state governments all over the (northern) United States are going broke. They have simply promised more than they can provide. The "Collective" citizens, who are so selfish that they demand excesses in compensation that they don't earn, have just killed the goose that lays the golden eggs. I hope they're quite happy with themselves.

In previous discussions, mostly with union member Johnny O'Bloggin, I have attempted to explain how economies work. In order for an economy to work, the workers in that economy must produce a product that HAS VALUE in other economies. If that product doesn't sell, no money will come in. The governments, local, state and federal, don't generate any income by paying their employees, so the governments must tax their constituents to raise funds for paying the government employees. And the government can only tax as much as we the people allow them to.

It is sad to see the LIV's be totally manipulated by the P.I.L.E.'s. But I promise you that 99% of the Ohio voters who opposed Issue 2 were only doing so because their union leadership told them to. My mama used to call that cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Venison stew and real scratch biscuits

It has been brought to my attention, by a couple of P.I.L.E.'s, that all I ever talk about on this blog is how much I hate Obama. I disagree, but for the sake of argument, the following post has nothing to do with Obama.

Step 1:

The first thing one must do if they want venison stew, is acquire some choice cuts of venison. The best way to do this is to get up in a tree, close to some sort of deer attractant, such as corn or clover, and using a rifle, drop said deer where he stands. I personally believe venison tastes better when the deer has absolutely no idea he's about to be dinner. One shot, one kill. After dropping said critter, shimmy down from the tree and knock the hair and guts out of ol' Bambi, then quarter him and put him in a large cooler with lots of ice, some clean water, and about six cups of pickling salt. Keep him on ice for four or five days, then butcher him and vacuum seal your cuts, then freeze. I use meat from all over the deer for stew meat, except for the tenderloins and backstraps. These are best broiled, sliced thin, then put on breakfast biscuits. Delicious.

Step 2:

After selecting some stew cuts, cut the meat into one inch cubes. Put one cup of all purpose flour in a gallon size Ziploc bag, along with a pile of salt and a similar pile of pepper (freshly ground), add the stew meat, zip and shake. In a medium size stock pot, melt half a stick of butter (salted sweet cream, not margarine or oleo or vegetable oil or any other "healthy" crap). Turn the heat up to medium high and add the coated stew meat. Brown the meat, stirring until its all browned. Add a half gallon of tomato juice (Campbell's IS the best, but suit yourself). Add a cup of water, and bring to a boil. While that's going on, slice up a medium sweet onion, add it to the mix, and cut the heat. Simmer until you have the potatoes sliced up (about 3, or 4, or 5). Add the potatoes, stir, cover and let simmer for an hour. After that, start your biscuits.

Step 3:

Biscuits are an art, a dying art at that. Everyone remembers their Granny's as the best, and not everyone is right, but their Granny's biscuits were always better than Mama's, and Mama's are always better than the wife's. I imagine that my great-great-great-great-grandma made biscuits that would stop my heart, but I digress.

The secret to good biscuits is buttermilk, butter and lard. Forget about your arteries, and eat some good biscuits. Mix three cups all purpose flour (Granny never used a measuring cup) with four teaspoons baking powder, two tablespoons sugar, one teaspoon salt, and about a teaspoon of cream of tartar (that is a by product of wine-making, and makes it obvious that God wants us to drink - you can't have good biscuits without this by product.) Add a softened stick of butter(see above) and fold together with a pastry blender. Then add a big old spoonful of lard ( a by product of bacon making, see above). Blend that in well, and add a cup and a quarter of whole buttermilk. Again, forget about your arteries, and enjoy life.

Roll out your dough on a floured surface, sprinkle flour on top, and press the dough out to about a half inch thick. Cut out your biscuits. I like small biscuits for dipping in stew, and big biscuits for gravy or sandwiches. But you do your own thing. Put the biscuits on a tray, and put them into the oven, pre-heated to 425, for about ten minutes, or until golden brown and delicious smell overwhelms you. Then go back to the stew pot, and add three cans of mixed vegetables. If you do it right, the stew and the biscuits will be done at the same time.

Step 4:

Eat. Push halfway back from the table, and eat again.

Having said that, if it turns out that Mr. Cain runs around trying to talk employees into giving him sexual favors, I'm in favor of having him stoned to death, right next to Bubba Clinton.

I was recently asked about which Republican candidates tax plan I prefer, Herman Cain's 9-9-9, or Rick Perry's 20% flat tax. My first reaction was to go for Cain's plan, but I decided to do some research anyway. I'm glad I did.

I'm not a professional politician. I'm a professional problem solver, and I believe we should cut the salaries of senators and congressmen 10 percent until they balance the budget. I call that conservative common sense.

The President is playing the class warfare card because he knows that a lot of people may never hear that particular fact. But it's a fact.

I read your comment on Mud's blog, and first of all, thank you for thinking I'm the brightest "LIV" in the bunch.

As for passing on a world to my children that is ruined, do some research on Mud's story. He conveniently omitted the pollution data on rare earth oxides. Have you ever seen a movie where the "man" is burying toxic waste? That waste comes from rare earth, not oil or coal. I do believe we can do a better job of protecting our planet, but I don't believe "green" energy is the answer. Personally, I am in favor of going back to a 1700 energy plan - cut your own firewood and raise your own food. Build your own shelter, educate your own children. Fight your own enemies. Simple times. But then, I have an advantage in that scenario - I have all the necessary skills to thrive in that environment.

Pollution is not forever, Jeff. As soon as we stop polluting, Mother Nature starts to clean up after us. The planet is a remarkable, living thing. We are insignificant, like a summer cold. The Earth will shake us off, and go on without us. But for each other, we should limit our impact as much as is practical. Stopping the use of "fossil" fuels before we have a suitable, lesser polluting replacement is foolish.

And as for the side note to uptheflag, are you referring to the governments of Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Tunisia, and now Libya? I guess we should all be a little more careful about what we wish for, eh?

Rare Earth Oxides: The New Opec?

On a trip to lala land, (Mud's blog), I was introduced to something called Rare Earth Oxides. These are elements in the Earth's crust, not really rare, just hard to find in mineable concentrations. I admit, I did not know much about them, but Mud has discovered that China leads the world in the production of these elements, and they have decided to quit exporting them. So I decided to do some research on Rare Earth Oxides, and I'd like to share my new found brilliance.

The reason behind the demand for these elements is the huge wave of technological advances in the past twenty years. Rare earth oxides are used in all manner of electronic devices such as cell phones and computers, but they are also in great demand for "green" technologies like windmills and solar panels.

Rare earth metals and alloys that contain them are used in many devices that people use every day such as: computer memory, DVD's, rechargeable batteries, cell phones, car catalytic converters, magnets, fluorescent lighting and much more.

During the past twenty years there has been an explosion in demand for many items that require rare earth metals. Twenty years ago there were very few cell phones in use but the number has risen to over 5 billion in use today. The usage of computers and DVDs has grown almost as fast as cell phones.

The electric car, supposed to save us from the evil OPEC countries, relies heavily on rare earth oxides to make it's rechargeable batteries.

Many rechargeable batteries are made with rare earth compounds. Demand for the batteries is being driven by demand for portable electronic devices such as cell phones, readers, computers and cameras.

Several pounds of rare earth compounds are in batteries that power electric vehicles and hybrid-electric vehicles. As concerns for energy independence, climate changeand other issues drive the sale of electric vehicles the demand for batteries made with rare earth compounds will climb even faster.

Mud reported on his blog that China had 97% of the worlds supply of these elements, but that is not exactly true. China now produces 97% of the worlds usage, but their reserves are only about one third of the world's total. That's not really a relief, because opening new mines takes years, and China is going to cease all exports next year. So, as usual, America will be held hostage by a third world dictator because our EPA is against Americans making money. The cost of all our cell phones and computers will rise, and us poorer citizens will get even poorer. I don't suppose Mud realizes how this is tied directly to liberal policies, but he is now worried that the US will go to war with China over dirt. Frankly, I had worried about that myself, but I thought it would be over plain dirt due to China's outrageous population. I never would have thought they'd fight over dirt that won't even grow weeds.

Maybe we need to start drilling for oil, and cutting new coal mines. After all, "green" energy already costs too much, and now its likely to double or even triple. Do you suppose Obama knew about this when he said our energy prices would necessarily skyrocket? And how much stock does George Soros own in Chinese mining companies?

Did You Know? Rare earth magnets are used in wind turbines. Some large turbines require two TONS of rare earth magnets. These magnets are very strong and make the turbines highly efficient. Rare earth magnets are used in turbines and generators in many alternative energy applications.

Solar panels and wind turbines have a very short usable lifespan. It is my understanding that the most expensive parts of these technologies must be replaced every five years or so. How can that be considered "green"? We need to rethink all this new crap. And these rare earth elements have serious side effects. In short, they are really bad for the environment, giving off toxic waste that must be disposed of. That sure doesn't sound very green to me.
