In the last week, we have seen several members of Congress come out in favor of a law making it illegal to shoot a Congress Critter. Maybe they all believe, like most of us do, that they are less than human. We really don't believe they should all be shot, even on bad days when they pass monstrous bills without reading them. I feel the same way about a protective rule for lawmakers as I do about calling certain murders "hate" crimes. We should not be awarding special status to any group of people. It is against the law to murder another human being, and that should be the only definition needed. No one is more or less human and therefore qualifies for special status as a sub group affected in some different way than any other human being.
As long as I'm on the subject, the same rules apply to other laws. We don't need to pass laws requiring people to give special rights to certain groups of people. I get disgusted when people say "gay" rights. What is a "gay" right? We all have the same rights. If you choose not to use your rights then you give up those rights. If you don't want a woman to be your wife, then you give up the right to have a wife. Its pretty simple.
