It begins with our economy

I am anxiously awaiting Barack Obama's State of the Union Address tonight. I wonder how close his vision of the union will be to mine. The past several times he has addressed joint sessions of Congress, he has spouted the need to create jobs. I still don't have one. My wife was drawing unemployment, but her benefits have expired, so she is working 1-2 days a week for a little more than gas money. I sure hope when Obama talks about creating jobs this time around, someone will remind him every morning that he still hasn't done it. I think that would be a good job for his wife. My wife always reminds me when I haven't done what I promised to do. Come to think of it, my children are really good at reminding me about what I said, as long as it was something they wanted to do. Maybe Sasha and Malia can get a fire lit under daddy's ass.

In last years speech, Obama said he was elected to fix our economy. He said that in the first year, they (his administration) acted aggressively. "And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed." That is a direct quote from the vacationingest president in our nation's history. I get the feeling that he is unfamiliar with our language and idioms. Apparently he does not know how bad a storm we are having. Or maybe he does. After saying that the worst of the storm had passed, he drew a breath and said this,

"But the devastation remains. One in ten Americans still can't find work. Many businesses have shuttered. Home values have declined. Small towns and rural communities have been hit especially hard. And for those who'd already known poverty, life has become that much harder."

Sounds to me like he could just recycle that little part. I wonder what else from last years speech still applies today? How about this,

"For these Americans and so many others, change has not come quickly enough. They don't understand why it seems like bad behavior on Wall Street is rewarded, but hard work on Main Street isn't; or why Washington has been unable or unwilling to solve any of our problems. They're tired of the partisanship and the shouting and the pettiness. They know we can't afford it. Not now."

At the time of this speech, January 27, 2010, Congress was dominated by liberal weenies, weenies who refused to listen to any ideas not their own. After the November, 2010 election, those same weenies, or what's left of them, are now calling for bipartisanship and a kinder, gentler tone. Now they want to sit together and hold hands. And, like their forebears in recent history, they stand ready to blame all failure on the other guy.

I hope that in this year's speech, Obama will admit the failure of big government. I hope he will encourage Congress to cut spending. I hope he will announce that he wants the "Bush" tax cuts made permanent. I hope he will demand a bill cancelling corporate taxes and increasing import tariffs and taxes to outrageous levels. I hope he will announce that last week he told Hu Jin Tao to go to hell. I hope he will say "April Fool's" about all that "We need China" crap he spewed last week. I hope he will tell his union supporters that unions are keeping them on the couch instead of on the payroll. I hope he will tell the ACLU that they shot Gabby Giffords. I hope that he will tell the students at the University of Arizona that a memorial service is not a pep rally. And, as long as I'm making a wish list, I hope that he will announce the resignation of Eric Holder. But I will be satisfied if he will just repeat from last year's speech,

"It begins with our economy."
